India Activists Demand Release of Detained ‘Cockroach’ Protesters

A growing movement in India has gained momentum as activists and supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) continue to demand the release of their detained protesters. The protests, which began several weeks ago, have been sparked by a series of events that have raised concerns about freedom of speech and assembly.

The CJP was founded in 2019 with the aim of promoting social justice and challenging corruption in India’s education system. However, its activities were put under scrutiny when it organized a protest against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), which is administered by the Indian government to select students for medical and engineering colleges.

The protests began on July 10th, with thousands of CJP supporters gathering at various locations across India. The protesters demanded that the government take immediate action to address their concerns about corruption in the NEET process. However, instead of releasing the detained protesters, the authorities responded by detaining them under the Public Safety Act (PSA) and other laws.

The detention has sparked widespread outrage among CJP supporters, who argue that it is a clear violation of their right to freedom of speech and assembly. The protests have also raised concerns about human rights in India, with many calling for greater accountability from the government.

According to sources close to the situation, over 100 protesters were detained by police on July 20th, while another group was arrested on August 1st. The detainees are currently being held at various detention centers across the country.

The CJP has released a statement condemning the detention of its supporters and calling for their release. In a press conference earlier this week, Saurav Das, spokesperson for the party, stated that “the government’s actions are an affront to our rights as citizens” and that the detainees will continue to protest until they are released.

The protests have also attracted international attention, with human rights organizations expressing concern about the treatment of CJP supporters. The Indian government has responded by stating that it is committed to upholding its laws and protecting public safety.

As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the authorities will respond to the growing pressure on them from both within India and abroad. One thing is certain, however: the detention of CJP supporters has sparked a national conversation about freedom of speech and assembly in India.
