**Kyiv Warns Iran Against Escalation After Ukraine’s Caspian Sea Attack**

The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has been ongoing for over four years, with tensions escalating significantly since a recent incident involving Iranian-designed drones. In response to this development, Kyiv is warning Tehran against further escalation.

According to sources close to the Ukrainian government, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha made a phone call to Iran’s top diplomat, Abbas Araghchi, on Tuesday following an announcement by Iran that it had denounced a Ukrainian drone attack on one of its ships. The incident occurred in the Caspian Sea, where Ukraine claimed its military had targeted Russian warships and vessels used for transporting Iranian-linked military cargo.

Sybiha emphasized the need for restraint and warned Araghchi against any further escalation. “I emphasised the necessity to refrain from any escalatory steps,” he wrote on X. “This war is illegal and it must end.”

Araghchi confirmed that Sybiha assured him of Ukraine’s intentions, stating that the attack was “unintentional” and that Ukraine had no desire to escalate tensions. However, Araghchi also expressed concern over Israel’s involvement in provoking the incident.

In response to the Ukrainian drone strike, Iran has accused Israel of attempting to drag Europe into its conflict. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar wrote on X that he had spoken with Sybiha and discussed challenges facing their nations, including the threat posed by Iran.

Ukraine has developed technology to counter Iranian-designed drones over the past four years, but the country’s actions have been met with resistance from Tehran. In recent months, Ukraine has faced repeated drone attacks in response to US and Israeli strikes on Iran.

The conflict between Ukraine and Russia continues to escalate, with both sides accusing each other of aggression. The situation remains volatile, with many experts warning that further escalation could lead to a wider regional conflict.

**Background**

Ukraine’s Caspian Sea attack was the latest incident in a series of drone strikes targeting Iranian ships by Ukrainian forces. In recent months, Ukraine has faced repeated attacks from Tehran, including a barrage of drones and missile strikes on its territory. The situation has been exacerbated by Russia’s ongoing war with Ukraine.

Iran has long maintained that it is not seeking to escalate tensions with the West but rather aims to defend itself against Israeli aggression. However, many experts believe that Iran’s actions are driven by a desire for regional influence and control.
