Naqvi says system has “collapsed”, proposes administrative units to tackle challenges

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has expressed concerns that the country’s system has “collapsed,” citing a need for administrative units to tackle various challenges.

In an address at an economic summit held on July 30, 2026, in Islamabad, Naqvi emphasized the importance of reforming Pakistan’s governance structure. He stated that the current system is unable to effectively address the nation’s problems and urged political unity in the national interest.

Naqvi highlighted several key issues facing the country, including a lack of effective administration, inadequate infrastructure development, and insufficient economic growth. The interior minister also emphasized the need for reforms aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of government agencies.

The proposed administrative units are intended to be separate entities with their own governance structures, allowing them to operate independently while still being accountable to the national government. Naqvi claimed that these new units would enable better coordination between different sectors and departments, ultimately benefiting the country as a whole.

Naqvi’s comments come amid growing concerns about Pakistan’s economic situation, which has been marred by inflation, power outages, and other issues. The interior minister also acknowledged that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is “firefighting” without reforms, suggesting that more needs to be done to address the country’s problems.

The proposed administrative units are part of a broader effort to revamp Pakistan’s governance structure and improve its overall efficiency. Naqvi has been pushing for reform efforts in recent months, citing concerns about the system’s ability to effectively address the nation’s challenges.

While details on the specific proposals and timelines remain unclear, Naqvi emphasized that his government is committed to addressing these issues through reforms. The interior minister also expressed confidence that political unity will be key to finding solutions to Pakistan’s problems.
