Govt increases petrol price by Rs1.09, HSD price by Rs2.42
The global oil market has experienced significant fluctuations in recent months due to ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States. As a result, fuel prices have been affected, with petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices increasing by Rs1.09 per litre and Rs2.42 respectively.
In response to these changes, the government of Pakistan has decided to increase the prices of both petrol and HSD. The new rates will be applicable from July 31, marking a significant adjustment for consumers who rely on these fuels for transportation and other purposes.
The Petroleum Division’s notification announced that the price increases would take effect immediately, with petrol retailing at Rs336.15 per litre and HSD priced at Rs393.04 per litre. The diesel price has also been revised downward from its peak of Rs520.35 per litre to a new average of Rs281 per litre.
The decision to increase fuel prices was made in light of the ongoing hostilities between Iran and the US, which have led to fluctuations in global oil prices. According to petroleum minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, fuel prices would now be fixed on a daily basis due to these changes, allowing for more accurate pricing based on international market trends.
The government had been announcing weekly revisions to fuel prices since early March, alongside measures aimed at conserving fuel and mitigating potential supply disruptions in the region. The federal government also announced targeted relief measures to provide subsidized fuel to consumers.
Petrol is a staple fuel used by many Pakistanis for private transport, small vehicles, rickshaws, and two-wheelers. Changes in its price affect not only these users but also those who rely on diesel for heavy-duty transportation, power generation, and other industrial applications.
The impact of the price increase will be felt across various sectors, with petrol and HSD being major revenue earners for Pakistan’s oil industry. The government has emphasized that monthly sales figures indicate a significant demand for both fuels, which is why changes in prices have been necessary to maintain market equilibrium.
As fuel prices continue to fluctuate due to global market conditions, it will be essential for consumers to stay informed and adjust their purchasing habits accordingly.
