Protests Erupt in London as Calls for Kashmir Solidarity Grow

London, UK – In a show of solidarity with the people of Azad Kashmir, protesters gathered in Hyde Park on Thursday, marching through the streets towards the Pakistan High Commission. The event was part of a larger wave of protests sweeping across the city and beyond, sparked by concerns over the upcoming elections that may impact the region.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing reports of violent clashes between protesters and police earlier this week, which have raised fears for public safety in the area. However, it is unclear whether these incidents are directly related to the planned marches or if they represent a broader escalation of tensions in the region.

The protests began peacefully at 10:00 AM local time, with hundreds of demonstrators gathering near Hyde Park Corner. As the crowd grew larger, police deployed riot gear and attempted to disperse the protesters using water cannons and batons. Despite these efforts, many continued to march through the streets, chanting slogans and holding signs that called for an end to violence in Azad Kashmir.

The marches were organized by various groups, including human rights organizations and local community leaders who have been advocating for greater autonomy and self-determination for the people of Azad Kashmir. These groups argue that the region has been under Pakistani rule since 1947, leading to widespread human rights abuses and economic hardship.

One such group is the Kashmir Human Rights Forum (KHRF), which has been working tirelessly to raise awareness about the plight of the Kashmiri people. The organization’s president, Dr. Amna Aslam, told MajestaTimes that “the situation in Azad Kashmir is dire. People are facing extreme poverty, lack of access to basic services, and a complete disregard for their human rights.”

As the protests continued through the day, police struggled to maintain order, with reports suggesting that several officers were injured during clashes. The British government has also been criticized for its handling of the situation, with some accusing it of being too slow in responding to the growing tensions.

The planned marches are part of a larger wave of international attention focused on Azad Kashmir ahead of the elections. Diplomatic efforts have been underway to resolve the conflict peacefully, but so far, no significant breakthroughs have been reported.

In a statement released earlier today, Pakistani High Commissioner to the UK, Syed Muhammad Imran, condemned the violence and called for calm in the region. However, his comments were met with skepticism by many observers, who argue that Pakistan’s actions are exacerbating the situation rather than resolving it.

As the protests continue through Thursday evening, MajestaTimes will provide updates on developments in Azad Kashmir and beyond.
