Pakistan’s Security Landscape: A Call for Good Governance

As the country continues to grapple with security challenges in various regions, the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has emphasized the importance of good governance in ensuring Pakistan’s overall security and stability. In a recent press conference, he reiterated this stance, citing the need for a robust administrative framework to address the country’s complex issues.

The DG ISPR highlighted that good governance is not only essential but quintessential for securing Pakistan’s future. He noted that without it, none of the country’s problems can be resolved, and the situation in Balochistan remains dire. The military spokesperson emphasized the need for a serious discussion on this issue among politicians, parties, and those responsible to the people.

The DG ISPR also underscored the importance of constitutional methods, legal procedures, and political representatives in achieving good governance. He stated that these measures must be taken through the will of the people, rather than relying solely on administrative or military solutions.

In terms of security operations, Pakistan has seen a significant increase in terrorist incidents, with 3,145 reported cases in 2026 alone. The majority of these incidents took place in Balochistan, where nearly 31,000 operations were carried out by the security forces. A total of 2,084 confirmed terrorists were killed during this period.

The DG ISPR also pointed to a notable increase in martyrdom rates, with an average of four Pakistanis being killed every day. This figure includes army personnel, law enforcement officers, and civilians. The number of martyrs has been higher than the number of slain terrorists last year, but the tide is slowly turning in 2026.

The DG ISPR attributed this shift to a more proactive approach by security forces, which have undertaken nearly 200 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) every hour. He also noted that suicide bombing incidents have increased significantly, with 28 reported cases in 2026 alone.

In conclusion, the DG ISPR emphasized the need for Pakistan’s politicians and parties to engage in a serious discussion on good governance. The military spokesperson stressed that this requires constitutional methods, legal procedures, and political representatives to be implemented effectively. As the country continues to grapple with security challenges, it is essential to prioritize good governance to ensure its long-term stability.
