Trump says US has ‘understanding’ with Israel on Hamas disarmament deal

The United States and Israel have announced an agreement on the disarmament of Hamas, with President Donald Trump stating that both sides are “very happy” about the deal.

The agreement was reached after a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in October last year. The two countries had been working together to find a solution to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

According to sources, Israel has agreed to provide financial assistance to Hamas for the disarmament process, while also ensuring that the group does not have access to any weapons. This is seen as a significant step towards reducing tensions between the two sides.

The agreement also includes provisions for Israeli forces to withdraw from parts of Gaza and for Palestinian authorities to take control over the transfer of arms and equipment. However, it remains unclear when these steps will be implemented or how they will be monitored.

Israeli officials have expressed skepticism about the deal’s terms, with Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir calling them “unacceptable” and saying that Israel would only support a deal that ensures Hamas does not regain access to weapons. The Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, has also questioned the details of the agreement, stating that Israel will only support a deal that guarantees Hamas’s disarmament.

Despite these concerns, Trump remains optimistic about the prospects for the agreement. He stated that it is “a great breakthrough” and that nobody thought it would be possible to disarm Hamas. However, he also noted that there are still many challenges ahead before the agreement can take effect.

The agreement has been welcomed by some in Israel who see it as a significant step towards reducing tensions with Hamas. However, others have expressed concerns about the potential consequences of Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and the impact on Palestinian civilians.

As the situation continues to unfold, it remains unclear how the agreement will be implemented and whether it will ultimately lead to a lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
