Israel Launches Air Attacks Across Gaza Amid Ceasefire Protests

In the wake of a historic agreement between Israel and Hamas on Tuesday, Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip were caught off guard as Israeli air attacks targeted their territory. The escalation comes just one day after Hamas agreed to a draft peace deal drawn up by US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace.

According to eyewitnesses, the initial airstrikes began at dawn local time, with reports emerging of explosions and fireballs erupting in various parts of Gaza City. The Israeli military confirmed that its air force had launched a series of strikes against Hamas targets, including rocket launch sites and military strongholds.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported that two Palestinians were killed in the initial attacks, while at least 10 others were wounded. Many more are feared to have been injured or displaced by the airstrikes. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has confirmed that several civilians were trapped under debris after a blast ripped through a residential building.

The ceasefire agreement, which was announced earlier today, aims to bring an end to weeks of protests and violence along Israel’s border with Gaza. Under the terms of the deal, Hamas would disarm in phases, matched by Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. The US has expressed support for the peace initiative, praising its potential to “bring about a lasting and meaningful resolution” to the conflict.

However, not all observers have welcomed the agreement. Human Rights Watch (HRW) has criticized what it describes as Israel’s “aggressive” response to the protests, citing reports of excessive force used by Israeli forces against Palestinian civilians. The organization also expressed concerns over the potential for further escalation and human rights abuses.

The US-led peace initiative is seen as a significant development in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. With the two sides having been locked in a stalemate for years, any breakthrough has been met with skepticism from both sides. Nevertheless, the agreement offers a glimmer of hope for a long-sought resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

As the situation continues to unfold, international leaders are holding emergency meetings to discuss the implications and potential next steps. The United Nations Security Council is set to convene an emergency session later today to address the escalating violence and express its support for the peace initiative.

The situation in Gaza remains volatile, with reports of ongoing fighting between Israeli forces and Hamas militants. The humanitarian crisis continues to worsen, with thousands of Palestinians facing severe shortages of food, water, and medical supplies.

In a statement released earlier today, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed his support for the peace initiative, saying that it “offers a path forward” in resolving the conflict. However, he also emphasized the need for Israel to exercise caution and restraint in its response to the protests.

As the situation continues to unfold, one thing is clear: the road ahead will be fraught with challenges and uncertainties. The international community remains divided on how to respond to the escalating violence, but all agree that a lasting resolution must be found to this long-standing conflict.
