Karachi, August 20, 2023 – A low-pressure system associated with monsoon activity has moved into the city of Karachi, bringing with it a chance of rain and thunderstorms. According to forecasters, the weather pattern is expected to continue through the day.
The National Meteorological Centre (NMC) has issued a weather warning for Karachi, advising residents to take necessary precautions against heavy rainfall and strong winds. The centre also warned that the monsoon season can bring significant changes in temperature, with maximum temperatures likely to remain at 36°C throughout the week.
A low-pressure system is currently located over the Arabian Sea, which is expected to move northwards towards Karachi within the next 24 hours. As a result, the city can expect rain and thunderstorms during the day, with the possibility of isolated heavy downpours.
The weather forecast indicates that the rain will be accompanied by strong winds, with gusts reaching up to 40km/h in some areas. The sea breeze is expected to blow at around 8km/h, making it feel even cooler than the actual temperature.
Residents are advised to stay indoors during the heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, and to avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary. They should also be prepared for power outages due to strong winds and heavy rain.
The Karachi Traffic Police have reported an increase in traffic congestion on roads leading into the city, as commuters try to navigate through flooded areas. The police are urging drivers to exercise caution when driving during this time.
The monsoon season is expected to continue throughout August, with several other cities across Pakistan also experiencing similar weather patterns. Residents are advised to stay informed about local weather forecasts and warnings to ensure their safety.
