Tourists Banned from Visiting Lake Saiful Muluk Due to Heavy Monsoon Rainfall and Possible Cloudbursts
The Mansehra district administration has imposed a ban on tourists traveling to Lake Saiful Muluk in the Kaghan Valley, effective immediately. The decision was made at the request of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), which forecasted heavy rainfall and possible cloudbursts in Naran, the commercial hub of the valley.
According to a statement issued by the district administration on Friday, the ban is aimed at ensuring the safety of tourists. The PMD’s forecast indicated that Lake Saiful Muluk would be affected by monsoon rain and possibly experience heavy rainfall with possible cloudbursts in the coming days.
The decision has been met with criticism from local business owners who rely heavily on tourism to their livelihood. Hussan Deen, chairman of a traders’ body in Kaghan Valley, expressed concerns that travel restrictions would discourage tourists from visiting the area and have a negative impact on his businesses.
“The district administration has already placed all its departments and Rescue 1122 on high alert in Kaghan Valley,” Mr Deen said. “In such a situation, travel to Lake Saiful Muluk is not dangerous.”
The local business community argues that their activities are limited to only three to four months each year, making it essential for tourists to visit the area during this time. They also point out that the weather in Naran remains pleasant and tourists should continue to visit the valley.
“We have no other option but to comply with the district administration’s decision,” Mr Deen said. “Our business activities are limited to only three to four months each year, so such restrictions on travel to tourist attractions discourage visitors and adversely affect our businesses.”
The Mansehra district administration has not provided a specific reason for imposing the ban or when it will be lifted. However, officials have assured that they are working closely with local authorities and emergency services to ensure public safety.
As of now, tourists are advised not to travel to Lake Saiful Muluk until further orders are issued by the Mansehra district administration. The situation is being monitored closely, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
