Exclusive: Israeli President Herzog blasts Mamdani, praises Trump, sounds alarm on Iran

Israeli President Isaac Herzog delivered an exclusive interview to Fox News Digital at his Jerusalem residence, where he addressed concerns surrounding New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s rhetoric and its potential impact on global stability.

Herzog began by expressing concern over Mamdani’s recent comments calling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “a war criminal” and “the architect of a horrific genocide against the Palestinian people.” The president stated that such language is unacceptable, not only in New York but also globally. He emphasized the importance of respecting Israel’s right to self-determination and its inherent right to have a nation of its own.

Mamdani’s actions drew attention worldwide, with Herzog stating that he believes Mamdani will continue to cause harm after his interview. The president expressed hope that New Yorkers will understand the gravity of Mamdani’s words and take them seriously.

Herzog also addressed Iran, where he highlighted the regime’s long-standing threat to global stability. He stated that Tehran’s missile program, activities around the Strait of Hormuz, nuclear ambitions, domestic repression, and support for regional terror proxies are all evidence of its major threat to U.S. national security interests.

The Israeli president emphasized the importance of understanding the context behind Iran’s actions and not jumping to conclusions about the regime’s intentions. He noted that many Americans have been killed by the Islamic Republic, emphasizing the need for a more nuanced approach to dealing with the situation.

Herzog also touched on his relationship with President Donald Trump, praising him as a strong supporter of Israel. The president’s decision to relocate the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem and recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights was seen by Herzog as a significant step forward in strengthening their bilateral relations.

The two countries have maintained a close relationship despite some perceived differences on certain issues. Herzog credited Trump with helping secure the return of 255 hostages held by Hamas following the Oct. 7, 2023, massacre. He expressed admiration for Trump’s efforts to bring these hostages home and noted that he believes their friendship transcends shifting attitudes.

Herzog also addressed concerns over American support for Israel, particularly among younger people who are increasingly critical of the Jewish state. The president stated that campaigns of disinformation on social media have contributed to this decline in support, but emphasized that there is still a strong bipartisan relationship between the U.S. and Israel.

In his closing statement, Herzog reiterated his commitment to peace, innovation, and bringing ideas that will save humanity. He expressed hope for improved relations with neighboring countries, including Palestine, and called on Americans to understand the importance of accepting Israel’s security needs.

Herzog concluded by stating: “We’re a nation seeking peace, we’re a nation seeking innovation, we are a nation bringing ideas which will save humanity, and we are [a] nation trying to do good.”
