Alexander Rossi’s First Laps in IndyCar Chassis IR-28 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

This weekend, Ed Carpenter Racing drivers Alexander Rossi and Ed Jones took to the 2.439-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course layout for a scheduled two-day run of the new chassis, known as the IR-28. The unveiling of this next-generation car was met with excitement from fans and teams alike, who eagerly awaited its arrival in 2028.

Rossi’s experience in the cockpit was marked by his enthusiasm and praise for the preparation that went into getting the IR-28 ready for a shakedown run. “I’ve been a part of some new car launches before,” he said, per IndyCar.com. “And I can tell you that this one has gone as smooth as possible.” Rossi’s comments were echoed by his teammate Ed Jones, who also expressed his satisfaction with the preparation.

The weather conditions at Indianapolis Motor Speedway proved to be challenging for Rossi and Jones, but they still managed to squeeze in some track time despite the rain. The IR-28 is expected to weigh around 100 pounds less than its predecessor, which could have a significant impact on performance. According to sources, the new car’s design incorporates several innovative features, including the Aeroscreen and hybrid system.

Rossi was impressed by what he saw during his shakedown run, particularly in terms of the car’s handling and acceleration. “It’s hard to do a full comparison because of the conditions we were dealing with,” he said. “But everything you could hope for from a day like today was accomplished.” The IR-28 is expected to be an exciting addition to the IndyCar series, offering drivers and fans alike a glimpse into what’s to come.

The next driver to get behind the wheel of the IR-28 will be reigning champion Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing. Palou has been preparing for this moment all season long, and his experience in the cockpit is sure to make him well-equipped to handle the new car. With Rossi and Jones already having a taste of what’s to come, fans are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the IR-28.

The IndyCar series will continue to evolve with each passing year, driven by advances in technology and design. The introduction of the IR-28 marks an exciting chapter in this ongoing story, as teams and drivers work together to push the boundaries of what’s possible on the track. As Rossi put it, “It’s like Christmas morning.”
