Balochistan’s Turbat City Sees Shocking Kidnapping of 6 Labourers
In a disturbing turn of events, six labourers who were kidnapped earlier this week in the Turbat city of Balochistan’s Kech district have been found with bullet wounds on Thursday. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and raised concerns about the growing security challenges facing the province.
According to reports, unidentified armed men blocked the Turbat-Mand Road in Kalatak area of Kech district on Tuesday, taking away seven labourers who were travelling in a vehicle. One of the abducted labourers was killed shortly after the kidnapping, while his body was dumped on a highway.
The kidnappers then took the remaining six labourers to an undisclosed location, where they were subjected to torture and bullet wounds. The bodies bore signs of close-range shooting, with four of the deceased identified as being from Punjab and two from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Balochistan Home Department spokesperson Babar Yousafzai confirmed that the bodies had been found in Turbat’s Nasirabad area, where they were dumped on a highway. He stated that the labourers’ bodies showed severe torture marks and bullet wounds, indicating that they had been shot at close range.
The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who are demanding an end to the security challenges facing their province. The Balochistan government has also expressed concern over the growing number of kidnappings in the region, with a monthly security assessment released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) indicating that the situation had deteriorated sharply in May.
The recent kidnapping is part of a larger trend of violence and insecurity in Balochistan. The province has been facing numerous challenges, including escalating terrorist violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, as well as an increase in kidnappings and abductions.
According to the PICSS report, Balochistan emerged as the most affected province during May, with 71 terrorist attacks recorded compared to 34 in April. The report also highlighted a surge in kidnappings, with 52 incidents reported nationwide, including four of them in Balochistan alone.
The kidnapping of six labourers is just one example of the growing operational reach and confidence of terrorist groups in the province. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of workers in various sectors, particularly those involved in development projects.
