Bilawal warns ‘countdown’ will begin for federal government if it steals AJK election
Pakistan’s opposition parties warn of a “countdown” for federal government if it steals AJK election
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has warned its opponents that the party would take swift action against any attempt by them to steal the upcoming elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The warning comes as the PPP Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, addressed a rally in Muzaffarabad ahead of the August 2 polls.
Bilawal stated that if the PML-N were to attempt any electoral malpractice, it would be met with severe consequences. “The PML-N thinks that after its defeat in Gilgit-Baltistan, a defeat in AJK would mean a countdown begins for its government,” he said while addressing the rally.
However, Bilawal emphasized that this was not a reality and urged his party to work together to ensure fair elections in Kashmir and all of Pakistan. “If you steal my mandate, I will come for your throne,” he warned.
The PPP scion also extended an olive branch to other opposition parties, urging them to join forces with the PPP to bring about parliamentary reforms and ensure fair elections. He expressed hope that together they could make a difference in bringing about positive change.
Bilawal emphasized the importance of turning out in large numbers during the second phase of the elections on August 2 to prevent any “injection” of false votes, which he described as an ineffective way to stop electoral malpractice. The PPP chairman also welcomed the PML-N’s promise to give Kashmir buses but noted that if they came to Muzaffarabad with a spectacle similar to what they had done in Lahore, people would ask: what have you achieved?
The PPP Chairman highlighted his party’s commitment to making AJK a strong and free region. He stated that the first task for the elected government would be to address the difficulties faced by the people of AJK, including opening roads, delivering essential supplies, restoring internet and banking services.
Bilawal emphasized that he wanted Kashmir to have sovereignty, ownership, and employment opportunities as per its rights under Pakistan’s constitution. He recalled Benazir Bhutto’s efforts to give observer status to Kashmiris at international organizations but pledged to also achieve this for the people of AJK through domestic means.
The PPP Chairman restated his intention to deliver “sovereignty, ownership and employment” to the people of AJK, ensuring that they have a say in their own future, votes, and resources. He expressed hope that together with other opposition parties, he could bring about positive change in Pakistan by working towards fair elections and democratic institutions.
The PPP Chairman also emphasized the importance of unity among all political parties and urged them to put aside differences for the sake of democracy. “To every political party that is tired of rigging, to every political worker who wants to make their own decision, come and join your hand with mine,” he said.
In conclusion, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s warning has sent a clear message to all parties involved in the upcoming elections in AJK. The PPP Chairman remains committed to ensuring that his party emerges victorious and delivers on its promises of sovereignty, ownership, and employment for the people of AJK.
