Sindh Imposes Province-Wide Ban on Pillion Riding for Chehlum

In an effort to reduce traffic congestion and promote road safety, the Sindh Home Department has imposed a province-wide ban on pillion riding during the occasion of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain. The decision was announced by Governor Syed Abid Ali Raza, who emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic rules.

The ban applies across all provinces in Pakistan and will be enforced from February 1st onwards. Traffic police staff are already conducting regular checks on roads leading up to major intersections, where pillion riders often pose a significant threat to other road users.

According to sources within the Sindh Home Department, the decision was made after a series of fatal accidents involving pillion riders during Chehlum celebrations in recent years. The government has also expressed concerns about the potential for increased traffic congestion and decreased safety on roads due to the large number of people gathered at major intersections.

The ban is expected to have a significant impact on road users, particularly those who rely on motorcycles or scooters as their primary mode of transportation. Motorists are advised to exercise caution when traveling during Chehlum celebrations and to avoid pillion riding altogether.

In addition to the province-wide ban, local authorities in Sindh have also taken steps to enhance traffic safety measures at major intersections. These include deploying additional police personnel, increasing the number of traffic police staff on duty, and implementing stricter penalties for violators.

The decision has been welcomed by many residents of Karachi, who appreciate the efforts being made to reduce traffic congestion and promote road safety in their city. However, some have expressed concerns about the potential impact on local businesses that rely on pillion riders as a source of income.

As the Chehlum celebrations approach, residents are advised to exercise caution when traveling during this time. The Sindh Home Department has also warned against any attempts to circumvent the ban by using alternative modes of transportation or engaging in reckless behavior.
