Pakistan’s Security Forces Continue Efforts to Combat Terrorism
A significant military operation was launched in the Razmak area of North Waziristan district, resulting in the martyrdom of a high-ranking army officer. Major Hafiz Ihsan Elahi, 34, from Mianwali district, was killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) on Saturday.
The ISPR stated that security forces also killed five terrorists affiliated with Fitna al Khawarij, a term used by the state to describe those belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). This group has been linked to numerous terrorist activities against security forces and law enforcement agencies in Balochistan.
The ISPR described Major Elahi as “a brave officer who was leading his troops from the front, fought gallantly, paid the ultimate sacrifice” during the operation. The military’s media wing also recovered weapons and ammunition from the killed terrorists, indicating their continued involvement in terrorist activities.
Following this incident, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding its nation at all costs. He stated that a comprehensive and effective strategy is being implemented to “completely eliminate” the menace posed by pro-regime terrorist outfits such as Fitna al Khawarij and Fitna al Hindustan.
Pakistan has indeed seen an increase in terrorism since the TTP ended its ceasefire deal with the government in November 2022, vowing to intensify attacks. In response, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed that terrorism “emanating from across the borders will be crushed with full might of the state.”
The military’s efforts have been ongoing for several months now, resulting in significant losses on both sides. The latest incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle against terrorism in Pakistan.
