Hyderabad’s Routine Life Disrupted by Intermittent Rainfall
HYDERABAD: The city received intermittent rainfall on Sunday, causing disruptions in routine life. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a total of 42mm and 40mm of rain were recorded at Latifabad and City Offices respectively.
The power outages reported by Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) affected electricity supply to 285 out of its 722 11kV feeders. This resulted in the inability of 66 feeders to provide electricity, with most being located in the city’s central area.
In addition to the disruptions caused by power outages, water supply was severely affected as facilities of Hyderabad Water and Sewerage Corporation (HWSC) remained without electricity. The absence of electricity led to a halt in various business activities, including those at major arteries such as Main Road, Railway Station, and Hyder Chowk.
The rainfall also had an impact on trade activities in the City Cloth Market, Tower Market, Anaj Mandi, Latifabad Units 5, 10, 11, and 12. The roads remained submerged due to water accumulation, making it difficult for traders to access their markets.
While Mithi district recorded the highest rainfall at 126mm until 8am on Sunday, Chhor received 81mm of rain, followed by Badin with 69mm. A day earlier, PMD had forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan until August 4.
The residents of Hyderabad were advised to take necessary precautions due to the intermittent rainfall and power outages. The city authorities have assured that measures will be taken to restore electricity supply as soon as possible.
