The Pakistan National Team is one of the most prominent teams in hockey. The Shaheens are four-time champions. But the worst thing was that Pakistan missed two World Cups out of the last three editions. The condition of Pakistan hockey is not hidden from anyone. The saddest part is that hockey is the national sport of Pakistan.
Over the years, a lack of funds for the players and facilities has hunted us down to the bottom. The officials in the Federation enjoyed what should have been spent on the players. Following a few years, things started getting better for us. The Pakistan Hockey Team qualified for the FIH Pro League, but unfortunately ended up with the biggest downgrade.
But the best part was that it showcased how badly hockey was managed. Players were left on their own in Australia by their own management, with no facilities, and they did not even have a place to live. They spent the tournament at their own expense, being national stars, washing their groceries and living in a hotel.
Following this, the Prime Minister took action, and now, before their departure, they got funds, including their daily allowances. They are going to the tournament after beating South Korea at home by 3-1. With a 3-0 win, the management decided to go with the U21 team, which resulted in a defeat but gave them a chance for exposure.
In the World Cup group stage, the path is not easy, as we are in the same group as India. The Pakistani coach stated, “We will try to get a point against India,” as the neighbouring team is ranked 3rd in the global rankings. But the hopes are better for the national side as the most-crowned nation returns to its throne.
