West Indies Secure Dominant Win Over Pakistan in First Test
Trinidad and Tobago – In a thrilling first Test at the Brian Lara Stadium, West Indies secured a 90-run victory over Pakistan, taking an early lead in the two-Test series. Jayden Seales dominated with the ball on day four, claiming his fourth five-wicket haul to propel the team to a commanding position.
The match began with Pakistan captain Babar Azam leading from the crease, but he was soon joined by number 11 Mohammad Abbas (23) in an attempt to stem the tide. However, Seales and his pace colleagues returned to produce a superb fast-bowling display that routed Pakistan for 120 runs in just over 40 overs.
Pakistan’s batting unit struggled to find form, with captain Roston Chase dedicating the victory to West Indies great Garry Sobers, who passed away earlier this month. “We wanted to make him proud and had a chat about it before the match,” Chase said afterwards.
“We’re not relying on one or two players; everyone is chipping in at crucial moments.” Babar Azam echoed his captain’s sentiments, stating that Pakistan’s lack of partnerships proved costly. “Today, as a batting unit, we weren’t up to the mark. We kept losing wickets back-to-back, and the batting failed,” he said.
Seales’ impressive display was instrumental in securing the victory for West Indies. He took five wickets at an average of 20, with one day of play remaining on Tuesday’s final day. The pace duo, along with Seales, dominated Pakistan’s innings to bowl them out for a paltry 181 runs.
The second and final Test match in Port of Spain begins on Sunday, setting the stage for a crucial conclusion to the two-Test series. With this win under their belt, West Indies now have a commanding lead, while Pakistan will look to regroup and mount a comeback in the next test.
