‘Freeze the conflict’: Drones slow Kazakh oil flow amid Russia-Ukraine war

Kazakh Oil Exports Halted

Kazakhstan’s oil exports have been disrupted due to drone attacks on its main export terminal, posing significant risks to the economy and energy markets. The country’s president, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, has called for a ‘freeze’ on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, citing the need for peace and stability in the region. The drone attacks, which Kazakhstan blames on Ukraine, have targeted the Caspian Pipeline Consortium’s marine terminal in Novorossiysk, resulting in a temporary suspension of oil shipments. The disruption has raised concerns among EU member states, particularly Romania, which relies heavily on Kazakh crude. Experts warn that the long-term outlook is bleak, with potential supply chain disruptions and economic losses. The conflict has also sparked a debate about the impact of the war on ordinary citizens, with many Kazakhs expressing concerns about inflation and rising prices. Source: Al Jazeera
