Pakistan welcomes Kuwait’s ratification of 2023 defence agreement

Pakistan and Kuwait have welcomed the ratification of a key defense agreement by Kuwait’s government.

On June 30, 2023, Kuwait officially ratified its defense pact with Pakistan, which was signed in March 2022. The agreement aims to enhance cooperation between the two countries on defense matters, including joint military exercises and sharing intelligence.

The signing of the ratification came after a meeting between Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah in Islamabad. During their discussion, both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening defense ties to counter regional threats.

Pakistan has been actively seeking closer military cooperation with its neighbors, particularly after a series of terrorist attacks on Pakistani soil by groups linked to Iran and Afghanistan. The country’s government believes that enhanced defense partnership with Kuwait can help address these security concerns.

Kuwaiti officials have also expressed their commitment to strengthening ties with Pakistan in various areas, including trade, energy, and infrastructure development. The two countries are expected to sign several agreements during the upcoming visit of Pakistani President Arif Alvi to Kuwait later this year.

The ratification of the defense agreement is seen as a significant step towards deepening cooperation between Pakistan and Kuwait. It comes at a time when regional security dynamics are becoming increasingly complex, with tensions rising in the South China Sea and other parts of the world.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has welcomed the ratification, stating that it marks an important milestone in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. The ministry also expressed its commitment to working closely with Kuwait on defense matters and addressing regional security challenges together.

The agreement is expected to have significant implications for Pakistan-Kuwait relations, which are already strong due to historical ties and cultural exchange. As the two countries continue to strengthen their cooperation in various areas, it remains to be seen how this new development will shape their bilateral relationship moving forward.
