The recent floods along the GT Road have affected over 1,000 houses and inundated over 43,000 acres of land in several villages in Punjab. The floodwaters from the Indus River have breached the banks of nullahs (Bhed, Deg, etc.) in Feroze-wala, Muridke — Sheikhupra tehsils — and Kala Shah Kaku, causing widespread destruction.

According to a report by the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), at least 1,215 houses were affected, with 1,075 in Ferozewala and 140 in Muridke. Over 43,188 acres of land were inundated, leaving many residents without access to basic necessities like food and shelter.

The PDMA report stated that rescue efforts are ongoing, with seven dewatering sets deployed by the Rescue 1122 team and additional teams being dispatched as needed. Relief camps have been set up in several villages, providing medical care, ration bags, and other essential supplies to affected families.

Despite the progress made so far, officials warn that the situation may worsen if heavy rainfall is predicted for the next four to five days. The Irrigation Department has expressed concerns about the potential for flooding again, citing the risk of water accumulation in homes and villages.

The Lahore division’s administration reported a significant reduction in water levels in several localities, including Pathan Colony and Noorpur, Rahim Colony, and others. However, officials also emphasized that the situation is not yet fully under control and that more efforts are needed to reach those affected by the floods.

In an effort to expand rescue and relief operations, authorities have deployed additional boats to reach rural and semi-urban areas still underwater after the nullahs breached their banks. Police have been deployed in these areas to safeguard the lives of residents.

The administration has also expanded its support for flood victims, providing food and dry fruits to those affected. Residents are grateful for the efforts being made by authorities to provide assistance and relief.

As the situation continues to unfold, officials remain vigilant about potential flash floods or landslides that could exacerbate the crisis. The FFD has predicted medium-to-high-level flows in several nullahs along the Indus River, including Jhelum, Chenab (Dora, Dotta, Dowara, Bhimber, Halsi, Aik, and Palkhu), and Ravi (Bein, Bassanter, Deg, and Sakki).

The situation remains fluid, with officials closely monitoring weather forecasts to anticipate potential flash floods or other hazards. The government has also announced plans to establish more relief camps and deploy additional resources as needed.
