Karachi Police Foil Gangster Attack on Key Figure’s Brother, Injure Multiple Victims

A brazen gang attack on Thursday evening left a prominent figure from Karachi’s Lyari area critically injured. Zubair Baloch, the brother of imprisoned Uzair Baloch, chief of the defunct People’s Amn Committee, was shot and severely wounded in an incident that has raised concerns about rising tensions within the city.

According to eyewitnesses, Zubair was sitting outside his residence on main Chakiwara Road when armed suspects on a motorcycle opened fire on him. The attackers fled the scene after covering their faces, leaving multiple victims injured in the process. Two passersby were also seriously wounded and are currently receiving treatment at Civil Hospital Karachi.

The incident has sparked fears of renewed violence in Lyari, with some residents expressing concerns about potential retaliation from gang members who have been arrested or convicted for past crimes. The South Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Asad Raza confirmed that Zubair had been involved in seven criminal cases between 2012 and January 2025, when he was released.

Zubair’s arrest and subsequent release were part of a broader crackdown on organized crime by the authorities. However, his involvement with various political parties has raised questions about whether his actions are being driven by personal grievances or a desire to further his own interests.

The incident highlights the ongoing tensions in Karachi, where gang violence remains a significant concern. The city’s police force is working closely with other law enforcement agencies to investigate and bring those responsible for this attack to justice.

As the investigation continues, residents of Lyari are left to wonder what sparked this violent outburst. While some have speculated about possible retaliation from rival gangs, others believe that the situation may be more complex than initially thought.

The incident serves as a reminder of the need for continued vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies in addressing the city’s most pressing security concerns.
