Iran war live: Trump threatens to hit back hard over strikes on Jordan

Iran’s military action against the United States has sparked widespread condemnation from neighboring countries. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a ballistic missile attack on a US base in Jordan, prompting Iraq to issue a statement expressing outrage and calling for an immediate ceasefire.

The strike, which occurred late last week, targeted a key US military facility located near the city of Aqaba, where American troops are stationed. The IRGC claimed that its missile was fired in response to “aggressive” US actions against Iran’s interests.

Iraqi officials have confirmed that 20 of their fighters were killed and 32 others wounded in the attack, with many more injured or missing. Iraq has also accused Saudi Arabia of providing support to the Iranian military, which it claims is a threat to regional stability.

The Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF), an Iraqi Shia militia group, have issued a statement condemning US-Saudi strikes on their territory and calling for restraint from all parties involved. The PMF says that its fighters were caught off guard by the attack and suffered significant losses as a result.

US officials have denied any involvement in the strike, with Trump stating that “Iran will be hit very hard” if it continues to target American interests. However, US military personnel stationed at the Jordanian base remain unharmed, despite the missile attack.

The incident has sparked renewed tensions between Iran and its regional allies, as well as heightened concerns about the potential for further conflict in the Middle East. The United Nations Security Council is set to hold an emergency meeting on Thursday to discuss the situation and possible responses from member states.

As the situation continues to unfold, it remains unclear what the long-term consequences of this incident will be. However, one thing is certain: Iran’s military action has sent a clear message that it will not tolerate any aggression against its interests in the region.
