**SGSC Assures Citizens There is No Gas Leak, Odourisation Plant Testing Led to Complaints**

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has issued a statement assuring citizens that there are no gas leaks near Karachi’s Abul Hasan Isphahani Road following reports of complaints about an unusual smell emanating from the area. The company attributed the odourization plant testing conducted on Sunday as the cause for the reported issues.

According to SSGC, gas suppliers deliberately add odorants to their product as a safety measure to alert consumers in case of potential life-threatening leaks. This practice is standard procedure and not unique to any particular pipeline or system. The company stated that all system pressures are normal and there has been no report of a gas leak.

The testing was conducted during the commissioning process for a new pipeline, which involved adding larger quantities of odorants to the gas than usual. As a result, reports of a stronger-than-usual smell prompted complaints from various parts of Karachi. The SSGC administration wished to clarify that all system pressures are normal and there is no indication of any gas leak.

The company also emphasized that gas leaks can be life-threatening due to explosions, fires, or death by suffocation. In January, three women in Rawalpindi’s Bahria Town Phase VII died after being trapped in a gas leak incident while another person fainted from the smell in an apartment building. The SSGC has assured citizens of their commitment to safety and has requested that customers remain calm during this time.

The company is urging its customers to continue with their regular activities, as there are no reports of any gas leaks at present. Gas suppliers have taken necessary precautions to ensure a safe supply of gas to consumers nationwide.
